Veggie Drinks Night

On Tuesday, a bunch of us go out and get absolutely bladdered in an attempt to dispel the myth that vegans are uptight teetotalers. No, no, calm down, just kidding!

Our Veggie Drinks night is not a big booze up. And everyone from vegan to vegetarian to flexitarian is welcome. You can order a Perrier if you want or just some appetizers. Chivana has great veggie appetizers.

We started this mix and mingle night because a lot of people expressed an interest in having more events where people could meet new friends who shared their values.

The great thing about Veggie Drinks Night is there's more mingling than at a dine-out, where you tend to sit with the same people all night. And you can leave whenever you want. But do register so we save a seat for you:

Suggestions from Speaker 2008

Dear Chris and EarthSave Volunteers and Organizers,

Brenda Davis and I were so grateful to be part of this years Taste of
Health and appreciated all of your efforts and the good care you took
of us. We loved that Laura was so easy to reach, and so helpful. We
appreciate the immense amount of care and energy put in by Chris
Yi-Lluoma and by Dave. Thanks for the attention to detail such as
airport pickup, and the general helpfulness by volunteers whenever we
needed something.

We have feedback on three specific topics, if you would like it.

1. You might consider changing accommodations for speakers.
Aberdeen B&B - though called a B&B did not offer any Breakfast.
It had just one bathroom for rooms on 2 floors. As a result, there was
no option to use a toilet for example if someone else was having a
long bath.
Other residents didn't leave bathroom clean and dry.
Aberdeen B&B staff were minimally helpful about initial access to our
room, or not helpful at all
Guests have to take out their own garbage, and clean the kitchen or
else there is a $50 charge (yet there was dust on the TV.)
The Best Western near 12th & Kingsway is a good choice and is near the
Foundation, or perhaps there might be a vegetarian B&B in the
neighbourhood.

2. Speaker Equipment
A MUCH bigger screen is absolutely essential if showing PowerPoint to
over 30 people. The screen should be at least four times as big.
A functioning remote mouse is needed and a lazer pointer
Water should be already in place for speakers without having to ask
several times (there is a limited turn around time, especially when
question sessions are long)
Tech team should always check people's computers with av equipment
well ahead of presentations to be sure that they work -- not just 10
minutes ahead.

3. Fundraising
Talk with Brenda Davis (Kelowna) and / or Margie Col (Penticton) about
fundraising and involvement with leading political / community leaders
(open by mayor etc)
We can forward Tobias Leenaert presentation from Dresden

Thanks for the opportunity to be part of this inspiring and overall
beautifully organized event.
Love,

Adam Hart is the founder of Power of Food, a business that is built around providing simple strategies for discovering a healthier you. Now from Squamish, B.C. Adam did not always live the healthy lifestyle that is his passion today. By the time he was 26 years old, he was overweight, battling depression, struggling with food allergies, and pre-diabetic. It is from this place that Adam discovered the Power of Food. Today Adam reveals to thousands of people the simple strategies on how to gain control over your own health by making better food choices, whether at home or at the office. His passion for sharing his story has led him here today. www.poweroffood.com

Josh Brandon is an agriculture campaigner with Greenpeace. Josh is on the steering committee of GE Free BC, and on the National Council of the Canadian Environmental Network. Josh works with farmers, citizens and consumers to promote local and organic agriculture, mandatory labelling of GE foods and GE free zones. Global agriculture uses way too much oil, not just to bring you bananas in January. Now, the corporations that control our food supply propose genetically engineered crops as a solution to world hunger. This workshop will look at how we get out of oil and into sustainable, solutions for our food and our environment.

Geoff Urton, MSc is the BC SPCA's farm animal welfare specialist and coordinates the organization's advocacy and policy initiatives. He presently sits as an animal welfare representative on national committees that are designing Canada's organic farming standards and the Codes of Practice for the care of all dairy cattle in Canada.

Weekly Meeting is on at the ESC offices

Just a reminder that there is a weekly meeting at the ESC offices in regards to the progress we are making on Taste of Health.

You are always welcome to attend and give us feedback on how we can make this an outstanding event - the 10th of its kind.

This session take place at 4 PM Tuesday, June 24th.

Perfect - the Taste of Health Logo is repositioned

Now when someone clicks onto the Earthsave Canada website there is a direct link to the Taste of Health website 2008.

That is perfect since one of the comments we often get is that people aren't aware that TOH and ESC is linked.
We are taking extra steps to ensure that we are linked as much as possible this year and this is just one sample.

Thanks to Alex and Glenn for making this happen.
